Something new is happening...

Yesterday, we concluded the “Woven” series with some special guests from the City of Hampton. Dr. Kelli Cedo (Principal, Forrest Elementary School), Councilman Will Moffett, Vice Mayor Linda Curtis, and Assistant City Manager Steve Bond all came to share their appreciation for New Covenant’s partnership, especially our recent involvement with Forrest Elementary School. Beneath their long lists of credentials and accomplishments, we got to see their heart – to serve the region we live in. What has been unusual about this Woven series has been it’s diversity. We heard from Dale Sexauer, our missionary to India who preaches in large open-air meetings where people are healed and thousands of lives are touched. We hosted Mountain Mission School, who brought......

Let's Do Lunch!

Most of you are aware of NCC’s long-standing partnership with HELP through our support of the Night’s Welcome winter shelter program for the homeless of our community.  However, you may not be familiar with NCC’s support of HELP’s Loaves and Fishes lunch program. Loaves and Fishes is held for one hour at noon every Friday at the HELP Day Center on Buckroe Avenue in Hampton.  It is supported by local churches that bless our homeless community by providing lunch and a short Bible Study in a small group setting.  Through the Global Focus Outreach ministry, NCC extends a helping hand by serving at Loaves and Fishes on the fourth and fifth Fridays of each month. Teams of 4 or......

Dream Center (Prom Dress Event)

Picture this: David’s Bridal dress shop meets TLC’s “Say Yes To The Dress” meets Fantasy Faire Royal Hall at Disney.  Most of the ladies in this crowd can appreciate the joy that this image portrays. On Friday, April 15th the Peninsula Dream Center greeted 115 high school senior girls and their guests with a heart to serve.  We had over 1500 dresses in all sizes and colors, over 20 dressing rooms, a seamstress area, melodic tunes, and an MC with a mic cheering on the ladies as they graced the mirrors with loveliness. “She said YES to the dress!” was exclaimed over and over.  “Girl, you look gorgeous!” and “Where has that dress been hiding all night? Beautiful!”  Each......

A Whole Lotta VBS

The Great Wall of China, hot air balloons, Mount Everest, tropical rain forests, deep dark caves.  What do these things have in common?  They have all been key themes to our VBS programs.  And they are just a tip of the iceberg in regards to the level of epicness (it’s a word, I promise) we bring to reaching our kids.  VBS is such a dynamic ministry opportunity because we are positively impacting and encouraging our kids in house with their walk with Christ.  And we also have many kids from outside our normal group, from within our local community that come to see the spectacle we put on.  From over the top decorations, to outlandish skits and presentations, to......

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

I always knew God called us to be His hands and feet. I just never imagined it would involve cross-dressing.  It was only women’s shoes… the horror, the horror!  Why couldn’t it be walk a mile in her blouse and skirt?  I mean, really… how do you ladies walk in those things?  My walking shoes were a size 13, open toe, 1-inch wedged sandal (per some of the ladies in the office).  Open toed shoes on the day it snowed?  Oh yeah!  I had to walk with my back hunched over a bit, knees slightly bent, barely lifting my feet to prevent those size 13’s from being thrown into the back of the Police Officers in front of......

“I was a stranger and you welcomed me…”

The 2015-2016 “A Night’s Welcome” winter shelter program has come to an end with New Covenant Church hosting the final week of the season.  Thanks to the more than 80 youth and adult volunteers who put in more than 800 combined hours to share the love of Jesus Christ with the homeless of our community.  What a blessing you were to our guests! The compassion and unconditional love you showed to our guests made them feel welcome and part of our church family.  We ate together, laughed together, cried together, played games together, prayed together and worshiped together.  We rejoiced in their victories as God faithfully answered their prayers. Thanks to the more than 80 youth and adult volunteers who......
