How it all started...
The seeds of New Covenant Church began in 1956 when a full-time Shipyard employee by the name of Tom Jones, supported by his wife Nancy, began teaching the Bible to a small group of people in a home in Hampton, VA. They called this gathering the New Testament Congregation. As they continued to meet, pray, and learn, a desire grew in their hearts for more of God in their personal lives. In 1958, after a time of seeking God and others for guidance and instruction, this desire was met as they began to experience the presence of God in a special way. Later in 1958, they changed their name to New Covenant Church - our current name. In 1963, New Covenant Church purchased and moved into a small white church building on Harpersville Road in Hampton VA.
Expanding the vision...
In 1969, the church purchased four acres of land and in late 1973 moved to its current location. Its facilities have continued to grow as new ministry needs emerged over the intervening years. As ministry expanded, International Partners were established and New Covenant’s influence was extended to countries including Burma, Germany, India, Japan, the Ivory Coast in Africa, Mexico, Thailand, and the U.S. Territory of the Philippines.
Where we are headed...
Today New Covenant is expanding its ministry focus to have a greater influence in our local community. We are training and equipping ministers to meet the growing physical and spiritual needs of Hampton and the Peninsula. We are establishing local partnerships with churches, government agencies, and nonprofits to create pathways for people to volunteer and serve to the benefit of the entire community. We continue to be inspired to minister the Gospel of Jesus Christ around the world believing the gospel is for "Everyone, Everywhere". We recognize this naturally calls us to "Live Local" and "Love Local." We are going to our community/neighbors as servants for their benefit just as Jesus did.
